Girls Middle School Soccer · Matadors Start Strong w/ 8-2 Victory Over Lincoln

The Lady Matadors soccer team beat the Lincoln Lightning 8-2. This was especially significant for our girls, because they beat us two years ago 11-0 and last year in the playoffs. Here are three ways to (a) be proud and (b) encourage the girls as you see them:
Skills. Anaya Jajo (8th) and Nicole Hernandez (8th) each recorded a “hat trick.” That’s three goals in one game. Jasmine Melo (7th) scored two, and she probably would have scored a third, had she not listened to my instruction to stop shooting and work on passing.
Character. Several of our girls were variously pushed, slapped, and stepped on. Hats off to Aranza Ibarra (7th), Itzel Molina (7th), Nicole Hernandez, and Karime Hernandez (7th) who took especially difficult hits with dignity, silence, and comraderie. Hats off also to Cielo Romo who stooped down to help up an opposing player who had tripped.
Guts. Alexa Lerma (6th) and Alanah Arriaga (5th) stepped up and stopped more experienced girls in the defense position. Katelynn Van Liew (5th) continued to overcome her hesitancy and timidity by charging the opposing strikers from the goalie position and diving on the ground to stop the ball. This is tremendous growth over the course of just the past week!
